OMG! Monday
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good evening people of the blue planet!
Today is the very first edition of the OMG! Monday series! Yehey! (OMG! We are getting seriously professional...it’s scary!)
It would highlight news that matter to me (It might be irrelevant to some but what the heck!).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the rate that we are going, the world will really end by 2012!
And no, I am not subscribing to the predictions made by the Mayans; I am referring to the “retaliation” by mother earth, the effect of man’s selfish, rampant misuse and abuse of the limited resources. And the sad part is, the penalty of this crime is not directed solely to the perpetuators but it is felt by everyone!
When will we learn?!
On the news today (Philippine Daily Inquirer, Across the Nation), thanks to the effort of Task Force Sierra Madre and Pete Montilla, a priest who chairs the church-based forest watchdog, the DENR was able to seize illegally cut logs that were floating along the Umiray river.
It is good news to hear that someone, or some group, is being vigilant and doing what they can in protecting the environment.
But as good as it sounds it is still a loss in our part in protecting what is essential to us.
First, it is a loss because the logs that were seized were just part of the huge volume of trees that were illegally cut down from the Sierra Madre.
Second, there was no indication in the news that there were people who were arrested during the operation. The trees could not have cut up themselves and then jump into the river right?
And third, the authority that should be active in doing its job is passive in implementing its operation! DENR could not go on forever on just waiting to intercept trees that were already cut down. Because it is already cut down! You can’t replant those logs! (Well…pwede kung pilosopo ka…or tanga) The crime was already done! It is like waiting for some corpse to surface wherein it should have been stopped.
When you think about it (I hope they are too), we are capable of keeping these criminals on their toes and minimize their operation, if not totally being stopped. We can have aerial and naval support to check for illegal operations. We can’t continue on making excuses that we are running few on forest rangers. If one way does not work, find another one.
And to make matters worse, some DENR personnel are part of the problem!
I just hope that this present administration would continue to flush down the entire government system of these rotten tomatoes.
The crimes being committed against the environment are the crimes committed against the whole earth!
If people were just able to live longer they would see their actions taking effect, but sadly, because of greed and shortsightedness, our sons and daughters are the ones getting the consequences.
And when it comes to seeing the bigger picture, I am not just talking about the protection of our forest and the environment in general, but also about the formation of a better society, including the issues regarding over population, poverty and such. But that would be another issue to tackleJ.
When will we realize that it is the selfishness of the current generation that will create the catastrophe of the future generation?

Location: In heaven.
God the Father is looking through a telescope pointed towards earth. He was surprised at what he saw.
God the Father: “God the Son you have to see this!”
God the Son:” Oh My God!”
God the Father and the Holy Spirit: “What?!”
God the Son: “The Earth had just collapsed!”
Holy Spirit: “Who touched the DESTRUCTO BUTTON?!...”
God just sighed…
God; “Stupid…stupid man….”
Please Don’t Forget To Be Happy!
